Default How to Use Surveillance Camera in Schools

Surveillance cameras are valuable tools that, when added to a school building, can be an effective means of deterring school violence and vandalism. With the addition of cameras to your building, you will face the task of integrating them into your school discipline and monitoring policy. There are many effective ways to use surveillance cameras within a school to limit intrusion on the learning environment and help create a safe environment that is conducive to learning.

tep 1 Observe frequently vandalized areas. If you have an area in your school where vandalism frequently occurs, monitor that area with a camera. Students are likely picking that area to vandalize because it is off the beaten path and unmonitored.

Step 2 Check the halls for truancy. Monitoring the hallways during class time can put a drain on staff time and productivity. A much more effective means of catching truant students is monitoring the halls via surveillance cameras. With the aid of surveillance cameras, one staff member can monitor all of the hallways.

Step 3 Prevent conflicts. Using cameras to monitor students from a distance can be an effective means of identifying potential conflicts so that you can deal with them before they erupt in violence. Often, small things can be blown out of proportion and lead to violence if not dealt with by administration.

Step 4 Monitor school entrances to ensure that unauthorized individuals are not gaining access to the school building. If an individual does enter your building, the security cameras can be used to monitor his position and take appropriate action.

Step 5 Use camera footage as evidence. Surveillance camera footage is admissible evidence in almost any court of law. Footage of any criminal activity should be retained as it can be a valuable tool in the prosecution of serious crimes that may occur.
