Companies have been given another two weeks to submit proposals for a GPS tracking system for Lafayette Consolidated Government vehicles.
The responses to LCG's request for proposals were scheduled to be opened on Jan. 12. But some changes have been made to the RFP, and the deadline was extended "to insure the maximum possible vendor participation in the RFP process," said Keith Thibodeaux, LCG's chief information officer.
Three changes were made to the RFP before the deadline was extended. Previously, the request called for companies to be able to provide geo-fencing with both pre-determined shapes and the ability to create polygons with at least 12 sides.
The shape and side requirements have been removed, leaving only the request for geo-fencing.
Additionally, the vendors must offer support during normal business hours. Previously, the request was for round-the-clock telephone support.
The company must offer on-site support and installations, but a requirement that support be provided within two hours of an initial call on a public safety request was dropped.
The initial RFP for the system went out in late July. That was pulled back after the $395,000 allocated for the system was questioned by City-Parish Council members during budget hearings. Another RFP was sent out and resulted in about 60 responses.
Once implemented, hundreds of LCG and Lafayette Utilities System vehicles would be equipped with GPS tracking devices to monitor their locations.
