Can you get a keylogger this way?

Can a person infiltrate your cable from the outside of your home and give you certain viruses or keyloggers that way,. without ever going into a your home and installing it on your computer? Can someone hack your internet/computers from the outside is what I mean and if so how can i protect myself from such a threat/
