    Yes, in NY you only need permission of one person on the phone call to record. If you are recording a call that you are making, then you have the permission. If you are recording a call that neither person is aware it is being recorded then no it is illegal.

    If you are calling outside of NY, be aware that other states laws vary, and you must obey the law with the more strict regulations. If you call a state that requires everyone in a call to consent to being recorded, then you need to ask first.

    As a rule of thumb, I have recorded calls made to businesses many times before, for my own records. When you call these businesses the recorded greeting tells you the call will be recorded, so the other person on the line is already aware that the call is or may be recorded. Another way to inturpret this message "this call MAY be recorded for quality assurance" is that this message is giving permission to record the call.

    It depends. It is legal if you have the permission to record other's phone.
