Investigations are underway to determine why the South African Football Association’s (Safa) top bosses have secretly had monitoring devices tracking their every move.

The City Press reported at the weekend that the football association’s CEO, president, vice president, and Organising Committee CEO Danny Jordaan had spy equipment attached to their cars over the past few months without their knowledge.

Former Safa President Molefi Oliphant told Eyewitness News that he was furious and disappointed that tracking devices were found on the vehicles.

It was reported that they were fitted by an outside company at different times and overseen by staff members from Safa’s Fleet Management Department.

Oliphant said he was told it was planted for insurance purposes but it was inappropriate that he did not know about it. His deputy Mandla Mazibuko reportedly described the development as a gross violation of their privacy.

Meanwhile, it was reported that Jordaan ordered for the device to be removed saying he is awaiting a report that will inform them what exactly the devices were used for.
